back Libeco-Lagae

Libeco-Lagae is the largest Belgian linen manufacturer. The natural product flax, the basis for their linen fabrics and finished linen products, has a lot going for it. It requires no irrigation or chemicals. During its production, which is completely CO2-neutral, the entire plant is processed, which means no leftover waste whatsoever. Moreover, as linen is 100% biodegradable, the fabric itself generates no waste either.

Libeco-Lagae teams up with French farmers from the Seine-et-Marne region, who have been focusing on biological flax cultivation for years. The result of that collaboration, the Libeco Organic collection, is made entirely from organic cotton and consequently earned a GOTS-certificate.

Yet Libeco-Lagae wants to become ever more sustainable. The company regularly invests in new technologies and production techniques to minimize its use of energy. In 2011, they started collaborating with CO2logic, a consulting firm that specializes in CO2. Together they drafted an ecological plan of action to reduce Libeco-Lagae’s emission levels with one third within two years. In addition, the company invests in green electricity, LED lighting and optimal waste management scenarios.

In 2014, Libeco-Lagae was rewarded for its efforts with a ‘C2C Certified Silver Label’ for its Loomstate fabrics.
