Heron Preston x DSNY

Designer Heron Preston and the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY): not the first duo that comes to mind when you think of fashion collabs, right? This exceptional creative partnership was initiated by Preston, who vowed to use his talents in the service of mother nature. He decided to approach the DSNY after a plastic bag grazed his arm during what seemed like a peaceful dip in the ocean.

Preston recycles and reuses old DSNY uniforms into a unique streetwear collection he aptly named ‘Uniform’. The designer singlehandedly rummages through the pile of donated clothes, selects the pieces that appeal to him and pimps them with embroidery and a unique label (created especially for the occasion). With his capsule collection, Preston wants to draw attention to the ambitious 0x30 initiative, helping New York City in its goal to contribute zero waste to landfills by 2030. Though atypical collaborations are the designer’s hallmark, ‘Uniform’ is a one-of-a-kind collection that does nothing less than redefine fashion and promote the zero-waste philosophy.
