Druthers is a label with a mission, namely: designing high-quality men’s underwear and men’s basics that fit perfectly and that are made in New York and Japan using only sustainable and low-impact materials. They’ve set themselves the target of using nothing but bio cotton or recycled cotton in all of their product lines by the end of 2017. To compensate for the carbon emission during their production process, Druthers donates money to initiatives that advocate a carbon-free world.

Druthers made quite a splash with its very first collection of boxers and boxer shorts made from Recover Yarn. This fabric is a happy mix of recycled cotton and polyester derived from shredded PET bottles. Though Druthers’ boxers obviously don’t take up meters and meters of fabric, the brand saves an impressive 300 liters of water per piece, and every boxer prevents a few hundred plastic bottles from ending up in the ocean. So it’s a good thing that Druthers is expanding its territory: in 2016, they launched their first collection of recycled cotton and organic cotton socks from Japan. 

Finally, Druthers looks critically at the packaging material they use to ship their products. The brand engaged Eco Enclose to design cardboard boxes and poly mailers that are made entirely from post-consumer and post-industrial waste. The resulting packaging is 100% recyclable and compostable, and it’s made in the US.
