Blond & Bieber is a Berlin-based design studio led by textile designer Essi Johanna Glomb and product developer Rasa Weber. Blond & Bieber’s creations hover at the border of textile and product design. Perhaps surprisingly, their work revolves around experiments with algae. The duo’s revolutionary ‘Algaemy’ looks into the creative and aesthetic potential of algae as clothing dyes.

Several species of microalgae are naturally pigmented with blue, brown, green, and red tones. These pigments can be extracted through a chemical process. The microalgae have a nutritious function, they produce energy and oil, and even absorb CO2. This makes for a self-sufficient production cycle, requiring no additional energy.
